INSTRUCTOR PROFILES

Adam Calvert, Chief Instructor

Adam started shooting at the age of 8 and accompanied his father game shooting every Saturday into his late teens.  After 3 years at The Royal Agricultural College Cirencester he went on to manage several large estates which allowed him to run game shoots and shoot all around the country on various species.  This gained him a reputation as an outstanding game shot.  His in-depth knowledge of game shooting and his prescise explanations helps the client understand why they are not shooting as well as they might.  This makes him particularly effective for novice and experienced game shooters and those who want to take their ability to the next level.  Adam is available for instruction both at the shooting ground and in the field.

Billy Walker

Billy started shooting at 14 and has been instructing since the 1980’s.  He is qualified through the Guild of Instructors.  His favoured disicipline is clay targets and he has spent many years himself as a competitive clay shot and has built a wealth of knowledge on different clay targets.  Billy is able to effectively coach both novice and experienced shooters to develop their skills for competitive clay shooting. He is also an experienced game and In-Field instructor.

David Leathart

David started shooting at 12 and like many of us quickly became hooked on shooting. He enjoyed rough shooting in his early years after such quarry as pigeons, rabbits and the occasional pheasant. His interest in game shooting led him to make it his chosen career resulting in him spending 3 years as a Game Keeper for the Duke of Northumberland and 10 years working for BASC where he gained his CPSA Senior Sporting Coach qualification before joining E J Churchill.

He has amassed a wealth of instructional knowledge, teaching many of the countries top shooters. David always proves particularly effective with our game clients due to the amount of in field instruction he has done. This allows him to prepare clients for anything they may face on the game field

Neil Philips

Neil became interested in the sport of shooting as a teenager.  He started shooting pistols and rifles, and quickly progressed to shot guns.   A Physical Education teacher for 30 years, he has been a shooting instructor for 10 years and is qualified as a CPSA Advanced Shooting Instructor. His particular interest is in clay shooting and teaching people new to the sport of shooting. Due to Neil’s long teaching career he has been particularly effective and instrumental with our Hotshotz programme designed to bring youngsters into the sport. He has also a wealth of experience as a loader and an In-Field instructor. Neil’s other passions are Game Angling and Archery, which he also instructs at the top level.

Ian Spicer

Ian offers a huge knowledge of game-shooting developed from the age of twelve when his Saturday job was assisting the local game-keeper; he went on to become Shoot Captain on that same shoot syndicate many years later.  Ian’s interest developed into a particular passion for wild game such as woodcock, snipe, teal and grouse; he now regularly travels the length and breadth of Britain in pursuit of these species.  Ian is a qualified shooting instructor and full member of APSI (Association of Professional Shooting Instructors) and maintains a particular interest in coaching game-shots both on and off the shooting-field.

Fly-fishing for salmon and trout and training his gun-dogs take up the rest of Ian’s time!
